Ceramics

Earth, fire and water- the essence of clay objects! Join the Ceramics team at Faith and the Arts workshops to explore the infinite possibilities of clay. Workshops will develop the participant's skills and understanding of clay and the ceramic medium. Emphasis will be given to exploring methods and techniques relevant to the overall aims of the group and the outcomes participants wish to acheive.

An exhibition of the works will be presented at the conclusion of the Faith and the Arts week long summer school. Hand-building methods will be explored as these techniques form the basis of many utilitarian and most sculptural objects and are the easiest methods to continue after the workshop period ends. Wheel forming will also be addressed as an exciting tool in the making of 'common' objects that display the maker's unique individuality.

Workshops are designed with consideration for those at the Beginner-Intermediate level. For those with some experience, individual and challenging goals can be assessed at the time of enrolement. Please indicate your preferred level. Irene Charnas is a Sydney-based ceramic artist and community arts educator whose love of clay has been expressed in pottery for everyday use, as well as unique, expressive pieces in mixed-media approach.

Expect to be challenged in your usual thinking of pottery and bring heaps of enthusiasm......and spare clothes.
