Fusion Arts Colony
A model for community transformation through the arts around the globe
Central to Fusion’s work in the arts has been its Arts Colony, an intentional community of artists which originally formed in Mornington, Victoria during the 1980’s under the direction of Chris Neild. Later the colony moved to Malmsbury, Victoria, where Gerry Holmes and Rod Boucher took the reigns. Most recently, however, the colony has been centred in Poatina, Tasmania, under the direction of Keith Dougall. With a residential community of artists at its core, the Fusion Arts Colony extends to a now international network of artists engaged in a range of mediums around the world.
Each year the Fusion Arts Colony in Poatina hosts the Faith and the Arts Summer School, attracting youth and adult delegates from all over Australia and the world to study over 8 different art forms each year in an inspiring and supportive communal environment. The four-day Poatina Artists’ Retreat is also held in July each year for skilled artists seeking engagement with other artists to collaborate and produce new works. There is also an ongoing Artist-in-Residence Program hosted by the Arts Colony and Poatina Village. The Arts Colony is currently building a Community Arts Centre that will become a model for Fusion’s community transformation work around the globe.

Fusion Arts Network
Bringing artists and their communities together with hope
Fusion’s Arts Network now extends to over 20 different nations around the world where Fusion is currently at work. Whether it be musicians working to build a recording studio in Thessaloniki, Greece; a textile artist in Indonesia; or a glass artist in Sweden there are many around the globe who are seeking fellowship and purpose with others who are committed to the network’s vision, which is: To bring artists, their creativity, skills and artwork into meaningful connection with the wider community so that those communities are positively transformed and people find their place in shaping a better future both locally and globally for all.
In Australia the network extends to artists of all kinds, and others interested in seeing community transformation through the arts, in every state. Regular Arts at the Coalface networking evenings have begun in a number of locations across Australia and the newsletter, Fusion Arts News is produced quarterly.
