Retreat Mode

(Morning and/or Afternoon Elective)*

Need a chance to breathe? Once again at FATA we are offering the opportunity to participate under 'Retreat Mode' - a space and time in which to rest, reflect, share, and create within the context of everything we have come to know and love about Faith and the Arts.

Instead of signing up for one of the regular 'taught' Elective workshops, those participating under Retreat Mode will use the hours set aside for electives during the week to undertake their own self-directed creative retreat, whilst still participating in the gathering times and all other aspects of the week.

Take time out from the demands of life and/or arts practice to rest and reflect on next steps. Whether it be sitting and journaling in the gathering space, drinking coffee in the View Café or Tiers Tea Lounge, taking a snooze under a tree, absorbing artworks in The Poatina Tree Gallery or walking along the many bushwalking tracks surrounding the village - Retreat Mode is a great opportunity to stop and give space and time to the ‘still small voice’ that often gets lost in the busyness of everyday life and arts practice.

·         Share and network with other artists. Faith and the Arts has a great track record when it comes to connecting like-hearted creatives together, spawning future collaborations and other supportive peer relationships that last long beyond the week itself. You can use your retreat mode time to connect with others during the week.

·         Begin, continue or finish a creative work or project. Whether it be to write songs or undergo final production for a new album / work on a novel / write poetry / plan a new exhibition or body of visual art / paint canvasses / draw / choreograph a new performance work / weave / dance / print / sing / cook / blow glass / sew / take photos / sculpt / play…  We will do our best to find you a suitable space and the means (eg: a keyboard or easel) for you to do what you need to do. There will be opportunity to share the fruit of the week at the Saturday evening showcase.

·         Collaborate with other artists. Usually through pre-arrangement on the Poatina Arts Facebook page, or sometimes more spontaneously, Retreat Mode also represents a great opportunity to create in partnership with others if desired.

Be part of a short workshop or two. As we did in 2017 and 2018, we'll be running the Mix It Up program again - offering a range of stimulating, single-afternooon creative workshops that give you the opportunity to develop a variety of skills. Retreat Mode-ers have an exclusive opportunity to opt-in to any of the Mix It Up workshops on offer. Check out the Mix It Up page for more details on what's being offered. You will be able to sign-up for these workshops during the week at FATA 2019, with the exception of Flame-worked Glass which needs to be booked online (and early) to avoid disappointment (only four sessions available for 2 people each time).

Retreat Mode is available to self-directed and motivated adults who don't require tuition to be creatively productive. All art forms, whether visual, literary or performing, are welcome, although only a limited number of spaces are available for some art forms. If you require equipment (e.g.; keyboard or easel), please get in touch as early as possible so that we can confirm we can provide what you're needing.

*In 2019 Retreat Mode is offered as a Morning and/or Afternoon Elective. (You may select it for your morning stream, afternoon stream, or both.)
