Floria Tosca — Artist in Residence

31 May 2025

Floria Tosca assisted by Bronwyn Sargeson 25 – 31 May 2025

As a result of hosting the Ausglass biennial 2025 conference, Here.with.Now in February, many glass and other artists experienced the professional set up of the Poatina Glass Studio and serenity of Poatina's beautiful setting in the foothills of the Great Western Tiers in Tasmania. Since then there has been significant interest in our self-funded residency program with a record number of residency bookings.

Floria Tosca, a multi-disciplinary visual artist from Sydney was a conference delegate and participant in Tom Moore's 'Glass is Glue' post-conference workshop. We were delighted to welcome her and Broni Sargeson (also a conference delegate and workshop TA), back to Poatina in May for an intense one week stint in the studio building on skills gained during 'Glass is Glue' which combined solid flame-worked glass elements with blown furnace glass pieces in the hot shop.

Floria Tosca is a multi-disciplinary practitioner drawing on her life experience growing up in a rural environment, her musical training as a violist and her years working as a medical doctor. Her non-anthropocentric views inform her practice, which illuminates the complexities and interconnectedness of our existence. The artist possesses a sensitivity to our impact upon the environment, as well as nature's place in our psyche.
